John, born c1823, was a son of Donald from Erista and Margaret nee Macleod (who became the 2nd tenant of 39 Cliff).
After his marriage to Margaret nee Smith, 29 Valtos he settled at her family home, assuming tenancy of the croft. They raised four children.
