Dugald, son of Roderick Macaulay and Barbara Macleod, 30 Balallan served with RNRT during the First World War. When he was returning home from service at the end of the War, he was due to sail from Kyle aboard the 'Iolaire'. Whilst on board, he spotted a friend who was on board the 'Shiela' that was berthed alongside. He decided to travel home on the 'Sheila' with his friend, a decision that probably saved his life. He married Ann Mackay, 1 Lemreway.
