Alexander, born in 1830, was a son of Donald and Ann nee Macaulay, 24 Valtos. He assumed tenancy of the croft and settled there after his marriage to Annabella nee Macaulay.

They had seven children - in addition to those listed below they had; John (b. 31 Dec 1867 d. 27 Jan 1868) and John (b. 27 July 1870).
