Iain Mhurchaidh Iain

John (1874-1918) was a son of Murdo Macarthur and Marion Mackenzie, 26 Cromore.

On January 1, 1908 he enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve under Service Number A1473 with a subsequent re-enrolment B4943. His records indicate that he was 5 ft 8¾ in tall with blue eyes, a brown complexion and a tattoo of a Tombstone on his right forearm. He also gave an incorrect date of  birth of June 1876. John was a fisherman on Banff and Stornoway registered fishing boats including the Brothers. He was Mobilised on August 5, 1914 and served in the Royal Navy for a very short time. John was Medically Discharged with Chronic Bronchitis and awarded a War Gratuity of £35.0.0 his name is mentioned in  Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-1918. 

He was a bachelor and died aged 44.
