47492: John Mackenzie

John was a son of Donald Mackenzie and Barbara Smith, 19a Cromore.

John served in the Royal Navy as a Leading Seaman; his service number was JX199108. He was called up in June 1940 and trained at Lowestoft. He served on minesweepers and took part in a number of landings including the Anzio Beachhead and the Schelt Estuary where he was so severely shell shocked that he never fully recovered and died several years after the War.
