Walter was married to Marion nee Macaulay, an emigrant from Lundale, Lewis to Manitoba. They settled first at Moosehorn, near Lake Manitoba, relocating later to Foxwarren, MB and Wattsview District between St. Lazare and Birtle, MB.

Walter and Marion had two sons.
