Malcolm was a son of a Macritchie from Aird, Uig and Margaret nee Macleod, No 1 Crulivig. His parents emigrated to the USA - both he and his sister, Margaret, were born there. When they returned to Lewis they settled in Garynahine.

Malcolm was unmarried.
