Catherine (1790-1874) was a daughter of Norman Buchanan and Christina Macdonald, 6 Old Carnish. She married Kenneth Nicolson, Old Carnish and they had nine children: Malcolm born 1819; Murdo born 1821; Marion born 1823 (married Donald Macdonald, Kneep); Angus born 1825;  Mary born 1826 (married Norman Macdonald, Kneep - brother of Donald who married Marion); Donald born 1829; Ann born 1831, Kirsty born 1833 and Nicol born 1835.

In 1841, the family emigrated to the Eastern Townships of Quebec.
