John (born 1817) was a son of Donald Matheson and Margaret Macritchie. He married Mary Munro, Reef and Erista. In 1851, John and family were in Erista before relocating to Crowlista, first recorded tenant of 22 Crowlista, then later moved to 24 Crowlista.
They had ten children.
