Malcolm Macleod (1878-1932) son of Malcolm Macleod and Janet Martin, 20a Balallan graduated MB Ch.B from Aberdeen University in 1904. Practised in Wales, Scotland and the North of England before moving as a locum to Minethorpe in 1911, taking over the practice a few years later. He married a lady who is thought to be a sister of the Bishop of Whitby. In his will he left two annual bursaries for boys from Balallan attending the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway.
