37563: John Macdonald

John (1897-1988)) was a son of William Macdonald and Christina Buchanan, who were originally from 11 Geshader and relocated to 5 Timsgarry in the early 1920s. John joined the Royal Naval Reserve and served in the First World War. He was unmarried.

As a boy of about 15 living in Geshader, he was a school monitor (teaching the youngest pupils) at the Mangersta school. He would walk over the moor to Mangersta and back every day; evidently he realised one day about half way across that he’d forgotten the key, ran back to fetch it and still arrived at school on time.
