36958: Finlay Martin

Finlay Martin (1883-1928) son of Donald Martin and Christine Macaulay, 21a Balallan was a policeman in London. He served with the Royal Flying Corps during the First World War and was the first Lewisman to join the air service. He was wounded at the Somme in September 1916 and was also present at the Battle of Loos. He married Isabella Macleod, 13 Balallan and they ran a tearoom in Stornoway in the 1920s. They lived at 31 Kenneth Street and after Finlay’s death, his family returned to 13 Balallan.
