Iain Ruairidh Dhòmhnaill

John (born 1873) was a son of Roderick Mackinnon, and Catherine Macdonald, 4 Caverstay.

At Peterhead, in 1896 he married Euphemia Maciver, 14 Keose.  John and  Euphemia settled at 4 Caverstay and they had nine children.

On July 5, 1915 he enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve Service Number DA7867. His record indicates that he was 5ft 8½ in tall with brown eyes.  a fresh complexion and an incorrect date of birth of May 1875. John was immediately  Mobilised and served as a Leading Deck Hand in the Royal Navy in the First World War. Based at HMS Pembroke and aboard HMS Manco, HMS Iolaire, HMS Nairn and HMS John Watt. His name is mentioned in  Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-1918.

The family later moved to 16 Battery Park, Stornoway.
