36296: John Mackenzie

John (born 1841) was the son of John Mackenzie, Eighth of Ballone, of South Beach, Stornoway, and Mary Macphee of Greenock; he was born in Greenock.

After his parents both died young, John and his two sisters were raised by his father’s sister Margaret Mackenzie and Margaret’s husband Alexander Macleod, at Valtos. 

Because John and his siblings all died young, his father John’s title passed to the only son of his uncle Hector, John Tolmie Mackenzie, who became the Ninth of Ballone.
