Iain Donnchadh Dhonnchaidh Iain

John Duncan (1897-1916) was a son of Duncan Mackay and Mary Macleod, 8 Kershader. The family later moved to 3 Caverstay. 

He served in the 2nd Seaforth Highlanders, Service Number S9777, in the First World War. John lost his life in the Battle of the Somme, aged 19. His name is commemorated  on the Thiepvale  War Memorial, Picardy in France, on the Pairc War Memorial, the Nicolson Institute and the Lewis War Memorial Stornoway and he is mentioned in Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-1918.
