Angus Macleod

Angus Macleod

Angus Macleod (1785-1874) of 12 Gravir.

Angus was press-ganged into the 78th Seaforth Highlanders (probably in 1804, and therefore the 2nd Battalion), fought in the Peninsular War. His exciting story is retold by Angus Macleod.

On his return to Lewis Angus settled at 12 Gravir. Angus was a tenant in 1855 but there was no evidence of an Angus Macleod as a tenant in 1824/25.

He married Christina Macleod of Cromore and they had four daughters.

It is believed that he emigrated to Lingwick Canada with his daughter Elizabeth in 1863 but he appears on the 1871 Census. He may have emigrated later.
