17964: Zachariah Beaton
Zachariah (1857-1927) was the son of John Beaton and Ann Macaulay, of Quebec.
As a young man, went west to the praries but did not care for it and returned to Milan, Quebec. He worked there, and in Vermont, until 1909 when he decided to follow his friends and relatives to the Wiseton district of Saskatchewan. He remained there for many years but eventually sold up and returned to Milan. Zachariah never married; he died an elderly man in the Sherbrooke Hospital and was buried in the Gisla cemetery where he had designed the symbol on the monuments; two sheaves of wheat.
