John Smith (1876-1947) son of John Smith and Flora Maciver, 6 Keose went to Patagonia in 1907. He was also a sailor and spent a number of years on various whaling ships. He returned to Lewis in 1919 and served with the Merchant Navy during the Second World War; he volunteered when he was 63 years old. He was taken ill and spent many months in hospital in Canada before returning home.
