14171: Alex John Nicholson

Alex John (1911-1971), 1a Keose. Alex was brought up by his great aunt Johanna Macdonald after his father was killed in a car accident near Galson, Ness in 1915.

Alex John was in Spain during the Spanish Civil War. He narrowly escaped death when his hotel at Albecte was bombed and where 20 people were killed and 80 injured in the incident. He served with the RAF during the Second World War where he remained, rising to the rank of Flight-Lieutenant. He emigrated to the USA and died in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
