John Macrae (1840-1908) was a son of Murdo Macrae and Mary Macdonald, 6 Habost.
In 1864 he married Betsy Mackinnon, 1 Caverstay. They lived at 1 Caverstay, 6 Torostay and around 1882 moved to outside 4 Keose. John and Betsy were cottars in the village and they had eight children.
The family later moved to Stornoway.
