Kenneth was a son of John Macleod, 8 Carishader and his first wife, Cathy Mary Macmillan, Newmarket.  He lived with his father at the Bernera Schoolhouse, Breaclete, his mother having passed away shortly after his birth.  He later lived in Stornoway with his father, stepmother and older sister, his father being Principal of Lews Castle College. 

Kenneth later moved to Edinburgh. He was unmarried.
