Donald Macinness was from Drumfearn, Sleat, Isle of Skye. Duncan was the  police constable in Uig from 1920-1927, when he was transferred to Back. He married Flora Canning in 1922 and they had five children. They lived at the police house at Miavaig, which had been built in 1908, complete with cell; Duncan was the last constable to be stationed at Miavaig.

Duncan and Flora’s eldest child Mabel (born 1921) attended Valtos School. The ashes of their son, James (1922-2012) were scattered on the shoreline at Miavaig below Miavaig Post Office and there is a tiny plaque fixed to the wall. He died in Stevenage, Kent but said the happiest days of his life were spent in Miavaig.
