Roderick, born 1839, was the son of John MacKillop and Effie Paterson of Obbe. About 1845 the family emigrated to St Ann’s, Cape Breton. Roderick was married three times, to Catherine Black, to Ann, whose maiden surname is unknown, and in 1903 to Margaret Bradbury.
