Alexander, born 1838, was the older son of that name born to Norman Paterson and Ann MacLeod of Borve. Their home was probably at the site known as Tobhta Thormoid ‘ic Shomhairle. In 1854, with the clearance of the crofts for Borve Farm, the family was moved to Meavaig South. Later they settled at 18 Strond.
