Reverend John MacLeod, born 1845, was the son of John MacLeod and Mary MacKay of Borve. The family probably lived at the site later known as Tobhta Iain ‘ic Ailein. In 1854, with the clearance of crofts to make way for Borve Farm, the family was moved to 2 Lickisto, Harris.
John emigrated to Prince Edward Island, Canada. He married Caroline Gauld in Canada, later returning together to Bayhead, North Uist.
