James Paterson, born about 1830, was the son of Catherine MacCusbic of Borve. He is not shown living with his mother in the 1841 and 1851 censuses, but emigrated to Australia with her in 1852, sailing on the Hercules.

Note: It is plausible that this individual is the same as James Paterson, born about 1831, son of Donald Paterson. That James Paterson was shown living with his father in 1841.
