115533: Alexander Mackenzie

Alexander (born in Poolewe 1848) and according to Bill Lawson’s Croft History was from Gairloch. He emigrated to Australia on the Empress of the Seas, arriving in Sydney in November 1868.

Alexander married Ann Mitchell on 30.06.1876 and they had three sons and three daughters. Their oldest son, Alexander Murdoch, was killed in France during the First World War on 19.05.1917 and  buried in Bullecourt, France. Alexander’s grandnephew who sent this information visited his grave on the 100 year anniversary.
