John (1826-1904) was a son of George Mitchell and his first wife Catherine Macleod, Kinchusil. John claimed to have been born in Gairloch. His first wife was Janet Macleod and they lived at Timsgarry Farm. They had two children.
John’s second wife was Helen Macrae, Scaliscro Farm, where they lived before he took over the farm at Mealista from the Macraes. John and Helen had nine children.
