John, born 1827, was the son of Donald MacDonald and Mary MacAskill, born either on Taransay or at the family’s later home in Seilebost. By 1841 the family was living in Borve, Berneray, before returning to Harris during the 1840s, living at Kendebig. John married Catherine MacDonald of 1 Kyles Stockinish. They settled at 3 Drinishader.
