11483: John Macleod
Iain Thormoid
John (born 1882) was the son of Norman Macleod and Christina Mackenzie, 1 Habost. His mother died in 1895 and he lived with his grandparents Murdo and Catherine Mackenzie at 1 Habost.
John was a bachelor and in 1911 was living on the 3rd house on the croft with his Aunt Mary and Cousin Christina Montgomery.
On February 25, 1916 he enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve S/N SD4257. His record indicates that he was 6ft 4in tall with brown eyes and a swarthy complexion. He was immediately Mobilised and served in the Royal Navy in the First World War. Based at Vivid III and aboard HMS Europa, HMS St George,and HMS Caesar. John is mentioned in Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-1918.
Later in life he had a small house behind 1 Habost. John worked at home as a weaver.
