Mary Ada, known as Maida, born 1933, was the daughter of Neil MacAskill and his wife Marjorie Macleod. The family lived in Edinburgh.

Maida worked as a primary school teacher, passing away at the age of 82. In her will she left a generous bequest to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in memory of her grandfather, Iain Bàn MacAskill, and three other men who drowned in 1899.
