Kenneth MacAskill, born 1780,  was known as Coinneach Portair, so was a ferryman. Kenneth married twice. His first wife was Chirsty MacCusbic, who died shortly after the birth of their daughter Christina. Kenneth’s second wife was Marion MacLean, with whom he had seven children. They lived in Borve, where Kenneth is listed as a tenant in 1830, paying £5.10s annual rent. In the 1841 census his occupation is shown as farmer.
