John (1947-2014) born at 6 Brenish, was the son of John Shaw and Euphemia Buchanan, 1 Carnish. After returning to 1 Carnish from Hamnaway with his parents and sisters, John attended Mangersta and Valtos Schools. He left school to go to the salmon fishing at Perth, where he lived for the remainder of his life.  He worked as a lorry driver for a time and then had his own taxi business.

John was married twice and had no family.
