Neil (1795-1870), born at Duirinish, Skye, was a son of Angus MacAskill and Effie MacLeod of Pabbay. He moved to Tahay before settling as a cottar at Port nan Long, working as an agricultural labourer and fisherman. Neil was married twice. With his first wife, Christina Paterson of Borve, Berneray, he had seven children. Neil’s second wife was Ann Shaw of Ruisgarry; Neil and Ann had no children together.
