106791: Angus MacAskill
Angus was born about 1809, the son of Angus MacAskill and Effie MacLeod of Berneray.
Angus married Effie Munro, with whom he was the have five children. In 1830 they were living in Borve, where he paid annual rental of £4, but by 1841 they were in Ruisgarry, where Angus had a small farm. In 1845, with the re-organisation of the Ruisgarry crofts, the family was moved to 19 Kyles Scalpay. Effie died in 1848.
Angus remarried, to Christina MacDonald, with whom he had two further children. They decided to emigrate, leaving Campbeltown on HMS Hercules on 26th December 1852. During an eventful journey, Christina died at sea, four days before the ship’s arrival at Port Adelaide, Australia.
