106722: Alexander John MacLeod

Alexander John MacLeod, born 1917, was the eldest child of John MacLeod and Kate MacDonald. He was educated at Berneray School and St Kilda School before moving onto Portree School, and then Aberdeen University, where he achieved an MA. Alexander subsequently trained as a teacher.

In 1939 he married Dolina Macphail from Bragar, with whom he was to have four children. Following his war service he taught at Daliburgh Primary School from May 1945, Knockbreck Primary School, Skye from January 1948, before returning to Berneray School as headteacher between August 1949 and 1954. He then taught at Sir E Scott School in Tarbert.
