Flora, born about 1844, was the eldest child of Finlay MacCuish and Betsy MacAulay of old Borve. In about 1854 they were removed from Borve as the land was needed for the formation of Borve Farm. They lived instead as cottars at Backhill. The property passed to Flora following her parents’ death.
In 1901 she was working as a house servant for her nephew Angus Paterson at 20/21 Borve. By 1911 she was back in her own home, making a living as a wool spinner.
