106635: Peggy MacRae

Peggy MacRae, born in Lochmaddy in 1874, was the second daughter of that name born to Andrew MacRae and Marion MacCuish. The family later moved to North Glendale, South Uist. Peggy and her sister Mary became good friends of Margaret Fay Shaw, and supplied her with several songs for the book Folksongs and Folklore of South Uist.

Several of Peggy’s recordings are available on the Tobar an Dualchais website. A convenient way to access them is through her biography page.

Details of the MacRae sisters’ relationship with Margaret can be found on the Kildonan Museum website.
