105535: Donald MacAskill

Donald was born in 1841, the son of blacksmith Neil MacAskill and his wife Ann MacKillop of Borve. His father died when Donald was about 12 years of age and the family moved to ‘house 1’ Rubha Mor where they lived as cottars.

Donald became a fisherman and cottar, and in 1873, at Kyles Paible in North Uist, he married Ann Ferguson of 3 Claddach Kirkibost. Together they were to have six children, making their home at ‘house 2’ Rubha Mor, next to his mother’s home.

On page 32 of An Ribheid Chiuil  it mentions that Donald won the veterans’ race at Leverburgh sports.
