40206: Royal Scots Fusiliers
The regiment that was to become the Royal Scots Fusiliers (fusilier from new flintlock musket – fusil) was originally raised in 1678 as the Earl of Mar’s Regiment of Foot. In 1712 the regiment fought under the Duke of Marlborough at Blenheim and elsewhere, becoming nicknamed as the Duke of Marlborough’s Own.
After several official changes of name, the regiment became known as the Royal Scots Fusiliers in 1881 under the Childers Reform.
In 1959 it amalgamated with the Highland Light Infantry to become the Royal Highland Fusiliers.
