Lochs Agricultural Society

Lochs Agricultural Society

In 1950, the Lochs Agricultural Society was re-instituted mainly under the direction of the late John Buchanan, who was Headmaster at Balallan at the time.

The first Show was held the following year at Valtos. The evening prior to the Show it rained but on the day of the Show, there was a real deluge. Marquees and tents were used to house the stalls and provide dining accommodation.

Despite the inclemency of the weather on the day of the first Show, which incidentally was the first post-War rural Show to be held in Lewis, it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the organising Committee and many successful Agricultural Shows followed.
