14122: London County Council

The London County Council was established in 1889 It was an elected organisation and was the local government body for the County of London. It was replaced by the Greater London Council administering a much larger area. This body was abolished in 1986, its functions to be carried out by the constituent boroughs. London was left without a central administrative body. In 2000 the Greater London Authority was established with an elected mayor and a London Assembly.
