109342: Canadian Air Force

The Canadian Air Force originated as the Canadian Aviation Corps, which existed between 1914 and 1915, attached to the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF).

In August 1918 the Canadian Air Force as such was formed, with two squadrons, one fighter and one bomber. This was independent of both the CEF & Britain’s Royal Air Force, although the British were responsible for aircraft, equipment and training.

The Canadian Air Force became totally independent on 17th May 1920, becoming the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1924. In 1968 it amalgamated with the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Army to become part of the unified Canadian Forces.
