15899: St Kilda Mail Boat
Mail boat constructed in Marine ply, painted dark-green. The front has a nail fixed to it. In white paint on lid is "St Kilda mail boat please open". It also has a makeshift flag made from a length of wire and an oblong piece of orange plastic. On the side in white paint "MV Team Jeff". The lid was sealed with glazing putty. Contains 2 empty "Hellman’s Mayonaise" jars and a short length of blue nylon rope. In white paint on rear "SK WP 5/97". Mail boat attached via blue nylon rope to an orange and blue plastic float.
Found floating off Gallan Head by I A Macaulay, skipper of the "Astronaut"
