Lundale, Lewis
From Place-names of Lewis and Harris by D Maciver F.E.I.S:
Liunndal : This is not hlunnr, roller for hauling boats, but the boat itself ; hlunndal, boat place.
Lundale is situated on the mainland side of the Bernera Bridge. It is the first village one comes to on the way into Bernera. There were only 4 tenants at the beginning of the 19th century and it was cleared very early to make a sheep farm as part of Linshader. It was resettled as 6 crofts in 1892 largely with people from Tobson.
Families in Lundale lived in the following crofts:
Macdonald: crofts 1, 2, 4, 6
Macaulay: 3
Macleod: 5
