Granton is a suburb of Edinburgh, lying on the Firth of Forth.
A seaport, its harbour was designed by Robert Stevenson. Work began on the harbour, commissioned by the 5th Duke of Buccleuch, in 1836. In 1850 a train ferry, the world’s first, was added, later to be superseded by the Forth Rail Bridge.
