Galashiels is a town in the Scottish Borders, located about 30 miles south-east of Edinburgh, in the valley of Gala Water, a tributary of the River Tweed. Melrose Abbey is situated nearby and the name Galashiels derives from pilgrims who stayed there on their way to Melrose, and means “huts on Gala Water”.
