41383: Portnalong, Skye

A village in the Minginish area, North-West Skye, populated largely by the families of Harris and Lewis (mainly Point) ex-servicemen who were offered crofts there in about 1923. As an incentive to go to the War there had been a promise of the “Land of Milk and Honey” on their return. That did not turn out to be the case due to the shortage of available land in Lewis and Harris, so land was found for them at Portnalong in Skye.
