1721: Luachair, Harris

Luachair is a small township at the head of Loch Resort on the border between Uig and Harris; the nearest point on the roadway is Morsgail Lodge in Uig. Luachair is Gaelic for ‘rushes’.

This small settlement on the Harris side of Loch Resort was inhabited for many centuries. In 1900 there were three houses and a school (which also served the families in nearby Crola) but the area has been abandoned since the 1960s. See the Kinresort record for further information and Rev Col AJ Mackenzie for a childhood memoir of the area.
