109312: Castle Grounds, Stornoway

Stornoway Castle Grounds (also known as Stornoway Woods, or A’ Gheàrraidh Chruaidh in Gaelic) is the name given to the area surrounding Lews Castle. It is in the care of the Stornoway Trust.

The grounds were originally laid out as formal gardens and woodlands by Sir James Matheson, who built the castle. More recently, they were the site of temporary housing during the years following the Second World War.
